The county police and fire departments are collecting canned goods and other nonperishable items to distribute to the needy. "There are families who must face hunger every day," said a police department statement. "However, you have the power to reach out from your heart to theirs. With your help, the Citizens Outreach of Baltimore County (COBCo) can assist approximately 2,500 families each year by giving them on average 30 to 35 pounds in donated groceries per household." Donated items may be left at police or fire stations. The drive ends Dec. 23.
