Dymond Shantyl Dantzler is a sixteen year old junior in the Mass Communications Program at Randallstown High School [RHS]. Nominated by Ms. Bertha Townsend, a RHS guidance counselor, Dymond was selected to become a Congressional Page for 2011 in the U.S. House of Representatives for the Spring term. Congressman “Dutch” Ruppersberger is sponsoring Dymond, who will attend the Congressional Page School located in the Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress. She will reside in the Page Building Residence Hall, located a few blocks from the Capitol and the Library of Congress.The Page School is fully accredited through the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is based on a year-long curriculum where one-half credit is awarded for each semester of work in a course.In addition, to attending school, Dymond’s legislative duties include delivering correspondence and small packages to the floor, answering telephones and preparing the House floor for sessions.
Currently, Dymond has a cumulative G.P.A. of 4.5. In November, 2010, Dymond was inducted into the National Honor Society at Randallstown High School. She is also the student ambassador for Building New Leaders, Inc., where she assists in recruiting interested students to visit HBCU colleges and universities. Dymond was the 2009 recipient of the ”Woman of Tomorrow” Award for the State of Maryland in ninth grade. Although Dymond participates in numerous extracurricular activities such as singing, dancing, stepping and the marching band, her future aspiration is to attend Harvard University with a major in Law and Psychology with a mind to dedicate herself to helping others by making a difference in our society. An only child, Dymond is the daughter of Simone Byrd and Darnell Dantzler and the only granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sammy [Peggy] Byrd of Owings Mills, Maryland..
